Installing Windows 7 on your Mac using Boot Camp Assistant

Hi guys,

Decided to share this information with all of you after having install Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro Retina 15" and a friend installing Windows 7 on his iMac on Dual Boot.

Open Mac App Store on your iMac/Macbook Pro/Air. Check for any updates on Mac OS X and Boot Camp Assistant. Complete all updates on operating system and software.

Have a thumbdrive loaded with the latest Windows support software from Apple ready. (This is important to install all drivers for Mac hardware onto Windows 7 system)
Insert the Windows 7 DVD into your iMac.

On your Mac, Open Boot Camp Assistant.

Uncheck “Create a Windows 7 install disk” & “Download the latest Windows support software from Apple”
Check only “Install Windows 7” & click Continue.

This will bring you to create a partition for your Windows 7. You may choose to divide equally or up to your own preferences. However do remember that you will need at least 25GB space on the new partition for Windows 7 to be installed.

Once you have allocated the disk space for Windows partition, click “Install” / “Continue” / “Partition”
Your iMac will start partitioning and once completed, your iMac should restart and start loading Windows files from the DVD.
Once loading has completed, it will prompt you to choose your Language settings for Windows 7.

Set your preferred language and click “Next”

Click “Install Now”
Setup will begin and come to the following page.

Select Windows 7 Version in DVD and click “Next”

Accept the license terms and click “Next”

Select “Custom (advanced)”

Click on the partition that you have allocated for Windows 7.
Click “Drive Options (advanced)”

You will have to click “Format” and it will be formatted to NTFS format. Click “Next”
Once formatted, you may click “Next” again.

Windows will continue installation.
At the end of this, the system will restart to continue installation.

Upon restarting, the above screen will come on.
Enter the user name you would like to use. Click “Next”

Enter the password you would like to use for your account. Click “Next”

You will come to the above window.
Check “Automatically activate Windows when I’m online”
Key in product key. Click “Next”.

Choose recommended settings.

Set the timezone and time. Click “Next”
Windows 7 will finalise your settings and prepare your desktop.
It will come enter to the Windows 7 Desktop.

Renew Malaysia Passport

Renew Your Malaysia Passport on a Weekend in Johor Bahru

Wanted to renew my Malaysia Passport but did not intend to spend my annual leave just to renew my passport. Bad news is the Malaysia Embassy in Singapore no longer operates on Saturdays! Sighs.

The plan was to attempt renewing my passport on a weekend and have it ready in a couple of hours.
So if you are looking for a similiar solution, just scroll down!

Entered Johor Bahru on friday night after work and spend a night in Taman Sentosa.
On Saturday morning 6:30am, I left the hotel and head straight to

Kompleks Kementerian Dalam Negeri,
 Jalan Setia Tropika,
 Taman Setia Tropika, Kempas
 81200 Johor Bahru

**Note: The immigration near the woodlands checkpoint does not operate on weekends anymore.

Metered taxi costs about 14RM from Taman Sentosa to the immigration (Below Photo) at Taman Setia Tropika.

Arrived 7am,  head to Block 1 (Below Photo) and queue for the queue number counter to be open at 8am.
Note: Have your documents ready, if it is not complete they will not issue you a queue number.
-Passport Photos
-MyKad & a photocopy
-Exisiting Passport
-Birth Certificate & a photocopy
*If you plan to take your passport photo there, you can take it outside the immigration.
**Surprisingly, there was no need to fill up any forms.

Got my queue number at 8:15am. My number was #119. Hmmm.
Once you get your queue number, go to the lift lobby and take the lift to level 3 and wait for your queue number to be called.

My number was called at 9:30am at counter 16.
Once your number is called, you just have to present your existing passport, MyKad and RM300 (5 Years 32 Pages Passport). Some fingerprints will be taken as well.
Thereafter, they will hold on to your existing passport and MyKad and ask you to wait to be called to collect your receipt and MyKad. (Receipt collection was Counter 23-26)

Within 5 minutes, my number was called again so I went to collect my receipt and MyKad from counter 26.
(See Below Photo)

Place your receipt at counter 11. (See Below Photo) Estimated passport collection was 10.45am.

Since there was some time to kill, I went out of the immigration and had some coffee and breakfast and returned to the counter at 10:25am.

To my delight, my number was called at 10:30am at counter 10 for me to collect my new passport!
I must compliment that this was rather a fast process and I am really thankful for that.
And yes, they will return you your old passport as well.

Just some additional info. Because I am Singapore PR, I had to transfer my Re-Entry Permit before I return to Singapore.
If you do not know what it means, it is as simple as updating the Singapore ICA that I have renewed my passport.
Since I do not have internet access in JB, I head down to KSL shopping mall and used the free Wifi at Coffee Bean to transfer my REP.

  • Go to this website https://erep.ica.gov.sg/erep/index.do
  • Login with your Singpass.
  • Select Transfer of Re-Entry Permit.
  • Select Self.
  • Update your Particulars and your new Passport Details.

If you can, print out a copy of it and have it with you when you return to Singapore.
If not, at least print a PDF and save it to your Laptop or Tablet or Smartphone just in case the immigration Officer in Singapore request for it.

Hope it is clear and works for you!

Feel free to question and I will try to share more.
